Alang Shipbreaking Yard transporters on indefinite strike

Bhavnagar, Sep 23 (UNI) More than 100 truck operators today went on an indefinite strike at the famous Alang Shipbreaking Yard, near here, over charges of exploitation by shipbreakers.

Alang Truck Transporters Association committee member Jashubha Gohil told UNI that for very long shipbreakers have been insisting on using their own weighbridges to weigh a loading on a truck, which does not function accurately resulting in loss for transporters.

Mr Gohil said that transporters are paid according to the weight. Since shipbreakers weighbridges are not accurate transporters have to suffer heavy losses in their income.

Transporters hope that an amicable solution will be found within a couple of days, he said.
