Veteran Cong leader Jagdish Awasthi dead
Kanpur, Sep 22 (UNI) Veteran Congress leader and former Member of Lok Sabha, Jagdish Awasthi, passed away here late last night after a prolonged illness.
He was 85.
He was admitted to a hospital, following a heart problem.
Awasthi was a close associate of Dr Ram Manohar Lohia and was elected as the Lok Sabha member from the Socialist Party.
After this, he joined the Congress and was elected as Member of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly from Billhore constituency from 1974 to 1977.
Later, he was elected to Lok Sabha from Congress party in 1984.
His cremation was performed at Bharav Ghat here today.
