Hundreds protest land take over for Vizhinjam terminal
Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 22 (UNI) Hundreds of people today blocked roads protesting against the taking over of land for the proposed Vizhinjam Container Transhipment Terminal.
Gathering under the banner of the Janakeeya Prathirotha Samithi, they blocked roads at Venganoor, Kovalam, Kanjiramkulam, Mukkola and Chappath from where some families would have to be relocated for implementing the project.
Chief Minister V S Achutanandan had said 1,088 hectare of land whould be acquired for the project and about 228 families should be evacuated.
However, the Janakeeya Prathirotha Samithi alleged about 1,000 families would be displaced because of the project.
