Awhad demands extension of BEST bus services in Thane
Thane, Sep 22 (UNI) Alleging that the Thane Municipal Transport (TMT) bus service has become a 'dead horse', MLC and city NCP president Jitendra Awhad today demanded that the bus services of Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) be extended to the city to ease the harassment faced by the commuters.
Addressing a news conference here after the first meeting of the newly-elected office-bearers of the party, Mr Awhad said the formation of the Authority for Mumbai, Thane and surrounding region could bring some relief to the harassed commuters.
He alleged that after the Shiv Sena gained control over the corporation, the bus services of the TMT had suffered badly and the situation is getting worse day by day.
He said the TMT had only 80 buses in operative condition. Of them, only 68 are on road, while the need is for 400-odd buses.
Mr Awhad alleged that the present precarious situation arose due to 'total mismanagment'.
He said a delegation would meet the Chief Minister and demand a total probe and action against those responsible for it.
