AGP unification for removing Cong: Patowary
Guwahati, Sep 22 (UNI) AGP's newly elected president Chandra Mohan Patowary today announced that all regional parties of Assam were unifying under the party flag by October 14 to dethrone the Congress in the next Assembly election.
Mr Patowary, who was unanimously elected by the General Council of the Asom Gana Parishad here yesterday, vowed to bring all anti-Congress groups together to take on the Congress in the Lok Sabha polls as well.
''I am grateful that the BJP top leadership called me after my election and am confident that with a mind of give and take we will clinch a seat sharing deal with the BJP,'' he said.
He said he would like to take the Assembly floor coordination to the Parliamentary polls by having both the BJP and the Left parties in the anti-Congress block.
Mr Patowary said he would lead the party to victory in the next Assembly polls. Already a mood of reconciliation has gripped the party as the entire central executive resigned.
The AGP, while welcoming all splinter groups, said the General Council had debarred them from taking up any party post for three years as a disciplinary measure.
Criticising the Congress government, Mr Patowary alleged that despite tall claims, they had not been able to bring any investment to the state nor had a single farmer got loan waiver announced by the Centre.
