LeT district commander among 2 militants killed in Ramban
Jammu, Sep 21 (UNI) Two foreign mercenaries including a district commander of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) outfit were today killed by security forces in Gool area of Ramban district in Jammu and Kashmir, official sources here said.
''Based on specific information about the presence of militants including the Lashkar district commander, troops of 58 Rashtriya Rifles, 98 BSF and police launched a search operation in Gujjar Gali of Gool area,'' official sources told UNI.
The security forces however, asked the militants to surrender but they opened indiscriminate fire and lobbed a grenade on the search party thereby trigging a fierce encounter.
''Two militants including a hardcore Lashkar district commander were gunned down after a three-hour-long gun battle,'' sources said adding that they have been identified as Abu Sawari (district commander) and Muzaffar, both residents of Pakistan.
A large cache of arms and ammunition including two AK 47 rifles with four magazines, one Ak-56, one Walkie-talkie, two pouches and other assorted material was recovered from the slain militants.
The slain District Commander of Lashkar-e-Toiba outfit was active since 2004 and was operating in Gool area of Ramban district.
