USSS demands Gairsain as Uttarakhand capital

New Delhi, Sep 20 (UNI) The Uttarakhand Sanyukt Sangharsh Samiti (USSS) today held demonstrations here, demanding to shift Uttarakhand capital from Dehradun to Gairsain.

The agitators marched through the streets before assembling at the BJP office here, said a release.

Former Uttarakhand minister in erstwhile Congress government Dhirednra Pratap led the rally, the release added.

Mr Pratap called upon the BJP leadership to get Uttarakhand Chief Minister B C Khanduri to fulfil the demand.

According to him, Gairsain had been the centre of the movement for separate State. ''Besides, so situated as to be equidistant from Garhwal and Kumaon hills, Gairsain makes a better choice,'' he said.

On the other hand, Dehradun has fallen victim to haphazard plans, he alleged adding, industrial projects have cost the capital its greenery.
