Pawar to inaugurate international seminar in Goa on Sep 24

Panaji, Sep 20 (UNI) Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar will inaugurate a two-day international seminar on ''Strategies for improving livelihood security of rural poor'' on September 24 here.

Co-organising secretary and Director of ICAR Dr V S K Korikanthimath said about 250 delegates were expected to participate in the semimar from different parts of India and abroad.

The main themes of the seminar are livelihood security approaches, livelihood security opportunities for rural youths and women, diversification of livelihood for small and marginal farmers, methods of livelihood analysis, case studies on improvement of livelihood security, policy changes for improving livelihood security and strategies for improving livelihood security of rural poor.

Chief Minister Digamber Kamat, the Assembly Speaker Pratapsingh Rane and Agriculture Minister Vishwajeet Rane will be the sepcial guests of honour.

Dr Mangala Rai, Secretary of Department of Agricultural Research and Education and Director General, Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi, will deliver the key note address.

The seminar was jointly organised by ICAR Research Complex for Goa and International Society of Extension Education, Nagpur with an aim to bring together the academia, researchers and development professionals in diverse fields to understand the livelihood of rural poor and discuss strategies and make recommedations for improving the same, Mr Korikanthimath added.
