Modi does aerial survey of flood-hit areas

Ahmedabad, Sep 20 (UNI) Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today conducted an aerial survey of the flood-affected villages in Ahmedabad and Surendranagar districts.

Food packets and drinking water pouches were air-dropped in 30 worst-affected villages of Dhandhuka taluka, which are still marooned, although it has stopped raining after monsoon clouds moved towards Uttar Pradesh.

Mr Modi later held a meeting with his ministers and senior bureaucrats for carrying out emergency relief and rehabilitation works like distribution of cash doles and initiating measures to prevent spread of diseases post-floods.

Revenue department sources said total 79 people have died owing to heavy rains this monsoon and 20,000 people have been evacuated. A survey about crop loss and payment of compensation to the farmers would be carried out as soon as the water recedes.
