Do good people make bad politicians? Kalam cites Gandhi

New Delhi, Sep 20 (UNI) Do good people make bad politicians? This was the subject of the grand finale of 4th Annual Inter School Speak Out debate organised by the Outlook here today where the guest of honour was former President A P J Abdul Kalam Citing examples of Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi and former South African President Nelson Mandela, Dr Kalam extolled the virtues and nobility of politics and said leaders must work with integrity and succeed with rectitude.

Dr Kalam said the mind of the youth is most powerful on the earth.

He called upon the countrymen to become good members of the family, nation, world and to work for the betterment of society, country and the world as a whole.

National Conference chief Omar Abdullah was also present on the occasion.

Twenty Four students from different zones of the country participated in the Speak Out Debate and debated for and against the proposition ''Do good people make bad politicians?'' Debjani Mitra of Kolkata won the first prize and best interjection award. She got Rs 25000.

Ayushi Roy, the first runner up got cash prize of Rs 10000.

Debuka Lunia the second runner up got cash prize of Rs 5000.

Debjani, the winner of the competition will compete on the behalf of India in the World School Debate.
