CPI to observe fast to condemn army attack on Lankan Tamils
Chennai, Sep 20 (UNI) Communist Party of India (CPI) will observe a day's fast across Tamil Nadu on October two, Gandhi Jayanthi day, to condemn the attack on Sri Lankan Tamils by the army.
In a statement here, CPI Tamil Nadu unit Secretary D Pandian urged the leaders of all political parties and people from all walks of life to participate in the fast.
He alleged the Sri Lankan government had been killing innocent Tamils which deserved strong condemnation.
The Lankan government should immediately stop the killings of Tamils and try to find a negotiated political settlement to the decades-long ethnic crisis.
Mr Pandian said the fast was also to urge the Centre to stop any kind of military assistance to Sri Lanka and insist on the Island nation to find a permanent solution to the crisis.
