'Army mela 2008' at Thiruvananthapuram
Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 19: The Indian Army will organise 'Army Mela 2008' with an objective to recognise the contribution of disabled soldiers and 'veer naaris' and to raise awareness about welfare schemes.
The mela, to be held from September 25 to October 5, would witness recruitment rallies, Ex-Servicemen rally, motorcycle and Army band and fireworks display. Another major attraction of the event would be weapon and equipment display at the Shanghumugham beach, a release here said.
Defence Minister A K Antony, Adjutant General of Army Lt General Thomas Mathew, GOC-in-C of the Southern Army Command Lt General Noble Thamburaj and GOC of ATNK and K Area, Major General E J Kochekkan, along with senior Army officials would be present during the event.
