Rape accused corporator awarded 7 yrs of jail term

Azamgarh, Sep 18 (UNI) After a long duration of 16 years, a local court today pronounced seven years of jail term upon a rapist corporator.

As per the allegations, Vijay Yadav -- corporator from Sidhari ward in Azamgarh Nagar Palika Parishad -- had criminally assaulted a woman in Sidhari area on May 6, 1992.

The woman had then filed an FIR in this regard.

Fast Track Court (IV) Judge Jitendra Kumar Pandey awarded the jail term to the gulity.

Besides, a penalty of Rs 10,000 was imposed on him.
