Boxing Academy will train coaches also: Hooda
Chandigarh, Sep 18 (UNI) Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda today said the Boxing Academy to be set up in Haryana would not only train players but also lay emphasis on training of coaches so as to enable the boxers to keep pace with the trends at international level.
The Chief Minister was interacting with media representatives after giving away a cheque for Rs 11 lakh to Boxing Coach G S Sandhu of the Sport Authority of India here today.
Mr Hooda said the reward was being given to Mr Sandhu in recognition of his coaching to the Indian boxers at the Beijing Olympics. Vijender Kumar, a boxer hailing from Haryana, had clinched bronze at the Beijing Olympics.
Mr Hooda said the Boxing Academy to be set up in Haryana would provide all kinds of facilities of international level for both players and coaches.
Haryana Minister of State for Sports and Youth Affairs Kiran Choudhry and Education Minister Mange Ram Gupta and Principal Secretary to Chief Minister M L Tayal were also present on the occasion.
