The meeting, presided over by the Prime Minister, began around 9 pm and continued till late night. Senior Cabinet Ministers, including National Security Advisor M K Narayanan, attended the meeting. However, no official statement was available about the outcome of the meeting. According to sources, Home Minister Shivraj Patil briefed the meeting on the serial explosions in Delhi and situation arising out of the incident. During the meeting, the Home Minister made two proposals which were accepted by the meeting.

He proposed to enact a legislation to counter terrorism effectivly and to increase coordination among various investigating agencies.Although, there was severe criticisn against Mr Patil for past few days for being 'inept' by the Opposition and some allies within the UPA, the indications are such that Mr Patil is not likely to be removed from the post.

This meeting was held after Railway Minister and RJD chief Lalu Prasad made an open demand to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for such a meeting to discuss the situation arising out of the Delhi blasts.
