Undertiral dies in Presidency Jail

Kolkata, Sep 17 (UNI) Mohammed Azhar, an undertrial lodged in the Presidency Jail, died today after being allegedly manhandled by a group of inmates.

The assailants owed allegiance to extortionist Gudda, also an undertrial, jail sources said.

They said Azhar was caught in a fight between two groups in which some 30 prisoners and 20 jail wardens were also wounded.

DIG (Jail) S R Hussain had rushed to the prison following an order from IG (Jail) B D Sharma.

An investigation had been ordered.

The injured were given first aid in the jail clinic.
