Police to instal CCTV, metal detectors for Navratri festival
Rajkot, Sep 17 (UNI) In the wake of recent serial bomb blasts in Ahmedabad and elsewhere in the country, the police have decided to instal CCTV cameras and metal detectors at the venues of 'garba' during the forthcoming Navratri (nine nights) festival here.
City Police Commissioner Sudhir Sinha told UNI that the major Garba organisers must have to instal CCTVs and metal detectors at the venues.
Expecting heavy rush at these venues, arrangements have been made by the garba organisers for private security to check the vehicles.
Police have directed the organisers to keep vehicles parking away from the venue and securitymen should check the RCC books and other relevant documents of the vehicles' owners before allowing them to enter the venues, he said. The city police have decided to watch the garbas closely and are not willing to take any chances, he said.
The organisers will have to submit the Garba's CDs to the police, every next day to review the situtation, he said.
The quick response teams of police will be deployed at the strategic points to look after the situation.
Meanwhile, the commissioner said that Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to curb organised crime in the city.
The SIT would investigate the serious crimes, land scams and organised crime, he said.
In the SIT, a Police sub Inspector and four policemen have been appointed, he added.
