Man shot dead, elderly couple assaulted for land

Jaunpur, Sep 17 (UNI) Armed assailants shot dead a man and grievously injured a couple at Kaboolpur village of Jalalpur area here today.

The incident occurred, when Haffizullah (60) was working in his fields and his neighbour Sohrab Rustam Arif along with associates attacked the elderly and his wife Chunni with canes, police said.

Later, Sahbab alias Jhinku (35), son-in-law of Haffizullah's brother, attempted to rescue the couple, when the assailant fired upon him.

Jhinku died on the way to a hospital, whereas the elderly couple were still battling for life, police added.

The reason of the crime was reportedly a land dispute.

A named FIR against four people has been registered.
