HC sets timeframe to rehabilitate Panchkuian Road traders

New Delhi, Sep 17 (UNI) The Delhi High Court today fixed a time frame and directed agencies, including Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, to speed up work in that time to rehabilitate traders who were displaced by the ongoing Metro project.

A bench, comprising Justice Mukul Mudgal and Justice Manmohan, directed the DMRC to submit the proposed plan of the project within two weeks.

The DMRC has offered an alternate site to the traders of Panchkuian Road at Bhai Veer Singh Marg. It wants to widen Panchkuian Road as it connects Connaught Place to North Delhi drawing heavy traffic during peak hours.

Mr Arun Jaitley and Mr Pushkar Sood -- lawyers appearing for DMRC -- offered built-up shops measuring more than 100 sq meters to each trader in a complex at Bhai Veer Singh Marg, about two km from the existing site.

The complex would have five storeys and would be an exclusive Mall for furniture.

Lawyers V P Singh and Sandeep Sethi, who appeared for the traders, demanded that all of them should be alloted shops at the ground floor and the DMRC has agreed to this.

The Court directed New Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) to clear the plans within two weeks after DMRC submits the plans to them and next four weeks to the traders to furnish details and get their allotments.
