CBI Director, 2 others served contempt notice over foodgrains scam

Lucknow, Sep 17 (UNI) A Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court today served notice for Contempt of Court to the CBI Director and two others into the foodgrains scam in Uttar Pradesh.

Besides, the bench sought a reply from the CBI within four weeks.

The order was passed by Justice A N Verma on a petition filed by Jagdish Narayan Shukla.

The HC bench issued the contempt notice to CBI Director Ashwani Kumar, Home secretary Madhukar Gupta and another Satyendranath Mishra after they failed to comply with its order to probe the case.

On Decemeber 19, 2007, the Lucknow Bench of the HC had ordered for a CBI probe into the foodgrains scam that came to light in as many as 32 districts.

The UP government had issued an ordinance and recommended an investigation by the CBI into the matter in December 2007.
