Inclement weather paralyses life in sea resort Digha

Digha, Sep 16 (UNI) Strong winds accompanied by incessant rain since last night in the coastal areas of East Midnapur district paralysed life today.

Twenty-feet high waves broke the sea embankment at different places in Digha, Sankarpur, Jaldakhoti, Chandpur and brought 20 villages under sea water. A depression over coastal Orissa is believed to have caused the stormy situation.

All tourists at Digha and Sankarpur left the area this morning out of panic.

Mr Shyamal Mandal, administrator Digha Development Authority, rushed to Sankarpur where the devastation was the most.
