Woman with baby slips through rly gate, gets run over by train

Chennai, Sep 15 (UNI) A woman and her child were run over by an EMU at the Perungalathur Railway Gate here last evening.

Police said Vasumathi (26) and her child Vikram (10 months) were returning home at Perungalathur with her husband R Shanmugam on his motorcycle when the accident occurred.

As the Railway Gate was closed, Vasumathi took her child and slipped through the gate only to be run over by the Beach-Tirumalpur Fast Passenger.

A shell-shocked Shanmugam rushed them to the Tambaram Hindu Mission Hospital, where they succumbed. The bodies were sent to the Chrompet Government Hospital for post-mortem.
