Theni, Tamil Nadu, Sep 15 (UNI) Accusing the Congress-led UPA Government at the Centre and DMK-led Government in Tamil Nadu of failing to check price hike, Former Chief Minister and AIADMK Supremo J Jayalalithaa urged people to oust the 'inefficient' governments.

Addressing a huge public meeting at Karuvelanaickenpatti Village here last night, Ms Jayalalithaa launched a scathing attack on her arch rival Mr Karunanidhi.

She said Mr Karunanidhi had no time to solve the issues facing the poor and the downtrodden. He was busy talking to film industry people.

''Mr Karunanidhi, who is showing interest in the film industry could resign his post and work for the industry full time,'' she said amid thunderous applause from the party workers.

Ms Jayalalithaa said the Central and State Governments had failed to protect the interests of the people and hence, 'the anti-people, unfit, inefficient governments should be thrown out of power by the people.' She listed out the difference in the prices of various essential commodities in the present regime and her government and said when the prices of essential commodities were increasing by the day, what could the people do with rice supplied at Rs one through PDS.

Claiming that rice smuggling was rampant in the State, she said only poor quality rice was being supplied to the people through ration shops, while the good quality grains were smuggled to neighbouring States.

Stating that Tamil Nadu had surplus power during her regime, she said during her tenure as the chief minister the power generated stood at 10,011 MW, excluding wind mills, as against a demand of 8,775 MW.

''While, he (Mr Karunanidhi) rushed to New Delhi for his personal interests, he does not make even a single effort to solve the unprecedented power crisis in the State,'' she charged.

Ms Jayalalithaa said law and order was deteriorating in the State and the people faced several issues like power shortage, robberies, illegal sand quarrying and rice smuggling.
