ONGC to dig deep wells along Saraswati river in Raj-Haryana

Jaisalmer, Sep 14 (UNI) In a bid to cater to drinking water needs, the Oil and Natural Gas Commission (ONGC) is contemplating a move to dig deep wells along the dried up course of mythological Saraswati river in Rajasthan and Haryana.

In the first phase of the scheme being taken up in collaboration with National Geophysical Research Institute, Hyderabad, three 1000 Mt deep wells were proposed to be dug in Tanot (Jaisalmer), Munabab Barmer and Bikaner, while one well was to be dug in Haryana, an official spokesperson said.

The exact place for digging the well would be chosen on the basis of evaluation of satellite pictures obtained for the purpose, he said.

One deep well along the dried up ancient course of the river had already been dug in Dabla area of this district and this well was now being handed over to the Jaisalmer district administration for public water supply.

More wells may be dug under the scheme in next phases, the spokesperson added.
