Mokokchung to boycott civic polls
Kohima, Sep 14 (UNI) Within three days of the decision of Nagaland Legislative Assembly to implement the women reservation in Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC) elections, scheduled for October 10, the male folk of all the 16 Wards of MMC has decided to boycott the election.
In a meeting held at Mokokchung over 33 percent reservation of seats for women,the ward members alleged that state government failed to give positive response to their appeal to revoke the quota and decided to boycott MMC election.
The meeting further resolved that if any person files nomination against the resolution adopted then the errant person shall be deemed as punishable as per Ao custom, the guilty person shall be deprived of the right to live in Mokokchung town and shall be banished from the town by the people.
It also stated that all members of the advisory board of present MMC must resign on or before September 15.
