AP: Suspend warden of ST hostel

Kakinada, Sep 14: The Legislative panel on scheduled tribes welfare headed by Mr K Ravibabu has expressed anger over misuse of funds meant for tribal welfare in East Godavari district and ordered immediate suspension of the warden of the ST hostel in Gangavaram in the agency area for failure to spend funds properly.

Announcing this at the review meeting here yesterday, the chairman said they were aghast to know that the hair cut of hostelers was being done by their seniors, despite Rs 12 allotted for each student for the purpose. The food served to the students was also not up to the mark.

He said the committee during its tour of Rampachodavaram area found several other irregularities in the hostels and wanted the authorities concerned to send the action taken report within two months or else face stringent punishment.

The chairman said during inspection in Kakinada city, they found the ST hostels were in deplorable condition and without proper ventilation. He wanted the district Collector Gopalakrishna Dwivedi to provide cooking gas connections to all the ST hostels and also allot suitable sites for construction of buildings for these hostels.
