BSY woos Tata for housing Nano project in K'taka
{image-B S Yeddyurappa_13092008.jpg news.oneindia.in}Bangalore, Sep 13: With solution to the Singur land imbroglio nowhere in sight, Karnataka on Saturday, Sep 13 also joined the race for housing the world's cheapest car Tata Nano in the state, but with certain conditions.
Interacting with visiting newspersons from Delhi, Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa said the government would offer the choice of locations for housing the project, but the Tatas will have to negotiate the price with the farmers. Once they complete the project, they will have to offer 25 per cent of the alternate developed land for helping them to sustain. ''We have learnt a lesson from the Singur controversy...henceforth, this will be the formula on which the government will balance industrial growth, while at the same time insulate the farmers from exploitation,'' he underlined. Karnataka's approach is in tune with the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) policy of the BJP on national level, which has already accepted such recommendation. With this, Karnataka has also joined the race with the states like Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Orissa, besides neighbouring Sri Lanka in wooing Tata to house the Nano Project at their places.
