Two persons killed in police firing in Kandhmal
Bhubaneswar, Sep 13 (UNI) Two persons were killed and a CRPF jawan was injured during a violent clash at Kirtanguda Panchayat under tumudibandh police station in the trouble-torn Kandhmal district today.
State Director General of Police Gopal Nanda said the two people were killed in firing by the CRPF jawan when a violent mob attacked the CRPF and Rapid Action Force deployed in Kirtanguda following yesterday's arson in which church and some houses were damaged.
The CRPF had to open fire as the mob pelted stones at the force and one bullet fired from the mob hit a jawan. The CRPF then chased away the violent mob and opened fire killing two persons.
Police said the mob was heading to attack a prayer hall when the police force present there obstructed them and this led to a violent clash.
The situation in the Tumudibandh had been described as tense and the authorities had clamped night curfew to contain further deterioration of law and order situation.
The CRPF jawan injured in the clash was first admitted at the Tumudibandh hospital but later shifted to the M K C G Medical College and Hospital at Berhampur.
