Raids unearth major smuggling racket, two arrested
Kokrajhar, Sep 13 (UNI) Raids conducted across Assam's Kokrajhar district today unearthed a major smuggling racket, with police recovering goods worth over Rs 50 lakh and arresting two people, including the kingpin - a lady.
Acting on tip-offs, police conducted several raids and found goods - railway scrap, telephone wires and tower equipment - from garages and also buried underground.
Srimoni Brahma, the lady kingpin of the racket, and her accomplice Mahananda Basumatary have been arrested even as the operation was on till the filing of this report.
Police said pilferage of such goods were reported from the district off and on since the last fews weeks.
