MP's review petition on FERA case dismissed
Chennai, Sep 13 (UNI) Madras High Court has dismissed the review petition filed by AIADMK Rajya Sabha member T T V Dinakaran in a FERA case.
With this, trial in the 12-year-old multicrore foreign exchange violation case against Mr Dinakaran is set to resume in the Economic Offences Court-II (EO-II) here.
While dismissing the petition yesterday, Mr Justice K N Basha also directed the EO-II to complete the trial within five months.
The Judge passed orders on the criminal revision petition of Mr Dinakaran and said both the parties should not take unnecessary adjournments as it would delay the disposal of the case.
The case was registered by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) of the Economic Offences Wing in 1996 alleging Mr Dinakaran transferred several crores of rupees to foreign countries without due permission from the Reserve Bank of India.
When the Directorate conducted further investigation into the matter and filed supplementary complaint and final report, Mr Dinakaran moved the court seeking copies of the documents.
Passing orders, Mr Justice Basha said additional evidence and documents filed by the Directorate could be perused by Mr Dinakaran after permission from the trial court.
