CRPF jawan shot dead in Srinagar
Srinagar, Sep 13 (UNI) After lull for about a month following massive pro-freedom processionists, militants today struck in the down town killing a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) constable.
A police spokesman said militants shot at and critically wounded S N Matapati, constable of 161 Batallion when he was purchasing fruits at Sakidafar, Safa Kadal from a close range.
He said Matapati died before he could be shifted to hospital.
This was the first such incident in the city since the eruption of agitation in Kashmir on Amarnath land row.
However, local resident alleged that the service weapon of the jawan went off accidentally and hit him.
The Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) based United Jehad Council (UJC) chief Syed Salahuddin has directed militants to take part in the pro freedom processions unarmed. He has asked them not to carry out any attack in civilian areas.
