Three Huji militants killed in Kishtwar

Jammu, Sep 12 (UNI) Security forces today gunned down three militants of the HUJI outfit after a six-hour-long gunbattle in Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir, official sources here said.

''Based on specific information, a joint operation was launched by police and troops of 11 Rashtriya Rifles in village Chairwan of Chingum area late last night,'' official sources told UNI.

The militants, however, opened fire on the security forces, which was retaliated and the encounter started at around 0100 hrs and ended early morning today at around 0700 hrs, they said.

''Three HUJI ultras were gunned down in the encounter and two of them have been identified as Saifullah and Akbar while one INSAS rifle, one AK-47 and two grenades were recovered from the slain militants,'' sources asserted.

The area has been cordoned and the searches have been intensified, they said.
