Jammu drivers demand security in en route Valley

Jammu, Sep 12 (UNI) Alleging threats to life, Jammu-based drivers have demanded security en route Kashmir, sources here today said.

Hundreds of drivers and cleaners under the banner of Jammu All India Taxi-Sumo-Tempo Owner's Union (J&K) Regd, assembled at Indira Chowk and lodged protest for being thrashed and damaging of vehicles by miscreants in Kashmir.

''The glasses and the window panes of the vehicles are often being damaged by some miscreants besides beating the operators of the vehicles in and en route to the Valley,'' Jagjeet Singh, president of the Union alleged.

Mr Singh added that the operators are not being allowed to cross over from district Ramban and the passengers are facing hardships.

However, the operators demanded adequate security arrangements for them and the vehicles at the parking places in the Valley.

Meanwhile, a delegation of the operators also met the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Jammu Zone this afternoon and sought security for Jammu based drivers, sources asserted.
