Raj govt favours creation of state legislative council

Jaipur, Sep 11 (UNI) The Rajasthan government has favoured creation of Rajasthan Legislative Council (RLC) to have a two-tier state legislature like Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Bihar.

A policy decision to pave the way for constitution of the second house in state legislature was taken by the Rajasthan Cabinet at its meeting here this afternoon. Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje presided over the meeting.

Accordingly, the state government will work to get passed in the state assembly, requisite resolution for forwarding to the Centre which would take further action as the process laid in Annexure 3, Article 169(1) of the Constitution, State government spokesman and PWD Minister Rajendra Singh Rathore told reporters after the cabinet meeting.

The government's move at the fag end of the present Raje government's five-year term, has come as a surprise as the term of the present assembly is due to expire in the first week of December and assembly elections are due by November last or so.

Mr Rathore also opted to remain non-committal over the possibility of convening special session of the state assembly for passage of the requisite resolution for the above purpose.
