Car sales for August fall 4.36%; two-wheeler sales climb by 14.25%

New Delhi, Sept 11 (UNI) Car sales in the country fell for the second straight month in August to 94,584 units, down 4.36 per cent from 98,893 in the corresponding period last year.

Car sales in July had recieved a setback as sales had fallen an annual 1.7 per cent, recording their first decline in three years, with rising borrowing costs and higher prices crimping demand.

Motorcycle sales in the country during the month was up by 15.9 per cent at 4,85,294 units as against 4,18,702 units in the corresponding month a year ago.

Total two-wheeler sales in August also soared by 14.25 per cent at 6,20,927 units, compared with 5,43,504 units in the same month last year.

Sales of trucks and buses fell to 34,294 units in August, down 6.3 per cent from 36,615 in the year-earlier period, the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) said in a statement.
