AIADMK to stage demonstration protesting power-cut
Chennai, Sep 11 (UNI) The opposition AIADMK would stage a demonstration in Coimbatore on September 13 to protest the power-cut and demand the resignation of Chief Minister and Electricity Minister Arcot N Veerasamy for failing to resolve the crisis.
In a statement here, AIADMK General Secretary J Jayalalithaa charged that industrial development in the state has come to a standstill and Coimbatore, known as the Manchester of South India, was plunged into darkness, because of the power cuts lasting for nearly 20 hrs in the district.
Many small and tiny industries in Coimbatore were facing serious problems, specially the knit wear industry in Tirupur, thanks to the 'power holday' has come to a standstill. If the present situation continued, Tamil Nadu would become another backward state in industrial development, she alleged.
The power cut, on one hand, rendered thousands of employees jobless and on the otherhand, resulted in price-rise, she also alleged.
She said the agitation would be organised on behalf of three district units of Coimbatore in front of the Collectorate and called upon partymen, public and industrialists to participate in large numbers.
