One drowned in Sagar lake while immersing Ganesh idol

Hyderabad, Sep 10 (UNI) A labourer drowned when the platform of a crane on which he was standing along with some others to immerse a Ganesh idol slipped into the Hussain Sagar lake, late last night.

According to police, four labourers were standing on the platform of the crane to immerse the idol. When the crane operator tried to lift the platform after immersion, it developed a snag and the platform and the crane's arm sank into the waters.

On seeing the four workers drowning, police constable Srinivas who was on duty, jumped into the waters and pulled out three of them to safety. However, the victim Kiran got stuck beneath the platform and died.

His body was retrieved and sent for post-mortem, police added.
