Firefox unveils bicylces for women priced at Rs 16,200

New Delhi, Sept 10 (UNI) For the fist time in India, Domestic high-end bicycle firm Firefox Bikes Pvt Ltd today introduced a women specific bicycle for the domestic market priced at Rs 16,200.

''It's an embarrassingly small market, but also steadily growing one. What we realised is that when the right equipment is not there, how can you expect a sport activity to grow. We have introduced this bicycle with a aim to create the market through encouraging more women to take up cycling as a sporting activity,'' company Managing Director Shiv Inder Singh told reporters at the launch of Trek 3700 WSD here.

However, he said, there has been an increasing demand for bicycles, especially made for Indian women although its a small market.

The 3700 WSD, which has been manufactured by the US-based Trek Bicycle Corporation, will be distributed in the country by Firefox Bikes through its exclusive retail outlets.

''These bikes have been designed such that we kept a woman's frame in mind and designed the bike accordingly so that it makes her comfortable while riding it and is also safe,'' he said.

The women specific bicycle features include short top tube, short stems, narrow handlebars, short crank arms length, wider saddle and short reach brake levers.

''The fairer sex can experience less pain, more comfort, less fatigue, better control and more power with these bicycles,'' he said.

Counting on the benefits of cycling, Mr Singh said, ''it provides solutions to global problems such as pollution, traffic congestion and health and obesity problems.'' UNI MP SBA KP1737
