Two sisters killed by speeding bus

New Delhi, Sept 9 (UNI) In yet another accident involving school going children, two sisters were crushed to death by a private chartered school bus in Seelampur area of North-East Delhi this afternoon.

The accident sparked off violent protests and scores of local people pelted stones and broken the window panes and finally set the bus on fire, according to sources.

However, police reached the spot immediately along with two fire tenders and brought the blaze under control.

The driver Satender, resident of Mandoli, was arrested and the bus confiscated.

According to the police, the incident occurred around 1215 hrs in front of the Idgah (mosque) at Jafarabad in Seelampur.

The victims -- Jainab (9) and Jeenat (7) -- sisters and students of Zakir Hussain Senior Secondary School - Jafarabad, were standing at the left side of the road when suddenly a bus coming from Jafarabad crushed them under its wheels.

While the elder sister Jainab died on the spot, Jeenat was severely injured and rushed to the Guru Teg Bahadur hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.

Later about 150 people smashed the bus and set it on fire.

A case of rash and negligent driving has been registered, police added.
