Thrissur, Sep 9 (UNI) Noted percussionist Chakkomkulam Appu Marar died of old age illness at his residence at Thalore in Ollur, near here, today.
He was 85 and is survived by his wife, four sons and a daughter.
The funeral would take place tomorrow with police honours.
Appu Marar was an expert in ''thimila'' and in ''Panchari Melam.'' He had led percussion orchestra several times in ''elanjithara melam,' an event of Thrissur pooram.
He was the first recipient of the Pallavoor Award of the state government and many other awards, including the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi Award.
