TN: 1.1 kg of new variety of narcotics seized

Chennai, Sep 9: A Cambodian national was arrested in the wee hours on Tuesday, Sep 9 after he was found in possession of 1.1 kg of emphitamine, belonging to the herion class of narcotics, at the Anna International Airport. Airport sources said Sonpeith (30) had come to India on a tourist visa about a week ago.

He landed in Mumbai and proceeded to Delhi where he purchased the narcotic. Sonpeith arrived here last evening.

He had come to the airport here to board a Thai Airways flight to Bangkok when Customs officials, on suspicion, checked his baggage and found the contraband wrapped in a black carbon paper to evade the scanner.

The drug was seized and sent to the lab for analysis. The value was roughly put at over Rs one crore.

The exact price could be known only after the report was received from the lab since it was a new variety of narcotic, the sources added.
