Encourage female literacy for healthy society: Guv

Shimla, Sep 8 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Governor Prabha Rau today said that there is a need to encourage female literacy to eradicate social evils like female foeticide and domestic violance.

Speaking in a function organised by Himachaal Gyan Vigyan Samiti to mark International Literacy Day she said that higher literacy level would also bring about economic freedom to women and empower them in right perspective.

The Governor commended the government for its efforts towards increasing literacy rate in the state and added that the state was an example to the country due to the priority accorded to the education sector.

On the occasion the Governor released documents on status of literacy in Himachal Pradesh.
