BJP urges CJ to order Sep 17 as 'Telangana Liberation Day'

Hyderabad, Sep 6 (UNI) The Bharathiya Janata Party (BJP) today urged Andhra Pradesh Chief Justice A R Dave to issue an adminstrative order to all courts in the state to celebrate September 17 as the ''Telangana liberation day'' as was being celebrated in Karnataka and Maharashtra.

In a letter to the Chief Justice, a copy of which was released to the press, BJP State President B Datattraya and other BJP functionaries wanted the Chief Justice to treat this letter as an application under Article 226 of the Constitution for directing the state government by way of ''writ of Mandamus'' or any other appropriate writ or order as he deemed ''fit and just''.

The Maharashtra and Karnataka governments have duely recognised the importance of September 17,1948 and decided to observe the day as ''Telangana liberation day'', they said.
