PM, Sonia leave for Delhi

Salem, Sep 5 (UNI) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi left here tonight for New Delhi by a special aircraft.

They were seen off at the airport here among others by Tamil Nadu Higher Education Minister K Ponmudi and Agriculture Minister Veerapandi S Arumugam.

The Prime Minister and Ms Gandhi participated in the inauguration of the expansion and modernisation programme of Salem Steel Plant.

Earlier, they were conferred honorary Doctorates by University of Madras on the occasion of the launch of its 150 year celebrations in Chennai. Ms Sonia Gandhi had also addressed a public meeting at Erode yesterday.
