MCD teacher awards increased to 150, award money to Rs 7,000
New Delhi, Sep 5 (UNI) To encourage excellence in primary education, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi has decided to increase the number of 'teacher awards', along with the award money, from next year.
Announcing this today on 'Teacher's Day' Delhi Mayor Arti Mehra said the number of municipal teacher awards would be increased from 100 to 150, and the prize money for the same would be incrsaed from Rs 5,000 to Rs 7,000 from next year.
She declared that no MCD school would run in tents by 2010, when Commonwealth Games would be held in Delhi, while adding that all municipal school buildings would be repaired by then.
She also announced setting up of a Library-cum-Recreation Centre for teachers at the Education Headquarters.
Emphasising the importance of teachers in society, Municipal Commissioner K S Mehra said an NGO 'Tex-Mahindra' would award 20 teachers from MCD schools every year for mertorious service.
The award will carry cash of Rs 10,000 and books of an equal amount, she added.
