Dy SP, BJP workers injured in bomb attack

Kannur, Sep 5 (UNI) Three policemen, including a Dy SP, and two BJP workers were injured when crude bombs were thrown at a police jeep and at a bus-shelter at Kannamvalliyil Kattimukku under Chokli police limits in the district late last night.

Police said the BJP workers, N T K Rijith (29) and M K Sudheesh (31) were attacked with crude bombs allegedly by CPI(M) activists while they were sitting in the bus-shelter at Kattimukku junction.

They have been admitted to a hospital in Thalassery.

A police team led by Thalassery Dy SP P K Prakash, which reached the spot, was allegedly attacked by an irate group of BJP workers by throwing crude bombs at the police vehicle.

Mr Prakash, constable Prashob and jeep driver Ratheesh, were injured in the incident, and were being treated at a hospital there.

The jeep was partially damaged with its windsreen broken.

Tension is prevailed in the Panur area following CPI(M)-BJP clashes and their student-wings during the last few days, in which several people were injured.

A large number of policemen headed by Inspector-General V Santharam and Superintendent of Police S Sreejith were conducting raids in the trouble-torn area to seize bombs and other weapons.
