Chamling announces cash awards for meritorious students, teachers
Gangtok, Sep 5 (UNI)Sikkim Chief Minister Pawan Chamling today announced cash award of Rs 5 lakhs for the best performing teachers and lecturers in the state on the occasion of Teacher Day's celebrations here.
Mr Chamling also announced a cash award of Rs 1 lakh to the best student in the state. The cash awards will be given to the selected teachers, lecturers and student from next year, he said.
Extending the performance based reward call, the Chief Minister announced that 30 meritorious students from Sikkim will be soon sent to Shanghai University for acquiring further education in apiculture and floriculture.
In his address, Mr Chamling urged the teachers to be more committed and dedicated towards their duties and responsibilities while the government will ensure that they get their due rights and facilities.
'' Do your duty sincerely and we shall provide you all the facilities and rights,'' Mr Chamling said to the gathering of teachers, students and officials during the state level Teachers' Day celebrations here.
State education minister GM Gurung said that Sikkim has presently achieved 82 per cent literacy rate which will reach up to 99 per cent by 2015.
