Naxals target IG's convoy; 4 dead

Raipur, Sep 4 (UNI) Four police personnel were killed on the spot and six severely injured in Chhattisgarh's Surguja district today when naxals targeted the convoy of an Inspector-General of Police and triggered a landmine.

Police told UNI that Surguja's IG B S Marawi was en route to inspect a spot near the Jharkhand border, where a surrendered rebel was killed yesterday, when his convoy's scout vehicle was blown up between Chunchuna and Pudara this afternoon.

The ultras opened fire on the police team and the personnel retaliated. An additional force was rushed from Surguja. The Maoists ultimately fled. The deceased comprised two Central Reserve Police Force personnel and as many from the state police.

The injured were undergoing treatment at a hospital in Samri. A helicopter was being sent to convey them here.
