Pondy bus operators withdraw bus fare hike
Puducherry, Sep 3: The private bus operators in Puducherry has withdrawn the hike in bus fare, effected by them on August 18, with effect from on Wednesday, Sep 3.
According to Private Bus Owners Association President Kannan, the decision to withdraw the hike followed a meeting between Transport Commissioner Khannaji and the private bus operators as per the directions of Lt Governor Govind Singh Gurjar, yesterday.
He said the Lt Governor had assured to look into the issue after the new government assumed office.
However, it was learnt that the AIADMK had made all arrangements to file a Public Interest Litigation in the Madras High Court seeking withdrawal of the fare hike and hurried action was taken to avoid ''adverse'' remarks on the government by the court.
The bus operators had been demanding a hike in the wake of rising fuel prices. As there was 'no response' from the government in this regard, they hiked the bus fare on their own.
