HC hands over Zainuddin murder case to CBI

Kochi, Sep 3 (UNI) The Kerala High Court today handed over to CBI, the investigation into the murder of National Democratic Front (NDF) activist Zainuddin at Kannur district last year.

Single Bench Justice R Basant observed in the order that the investigation into the case so far was not proper and there should be free, fair and impartial probe into the political murders.

Zainiddun was killed allegedly by CPI(M) activists at Iritty in Kannur district.

A message that the culprits would be booked irrespective of their high political influence should be given to the offenders and they should be aware that law would catch them, the court said.

Kannur district was known for political murders and an impartial investigation was the only remedy to curb the political violence in the district, the court said.

To a submission by the government pleader that the CBI was not above the shadow of doubt, the court observed in the order that ''this is not a certificate to the CBI for what they have done.'' The court also observed that it was entrusting the case with the central investigating agency as there was no other alternative and hoped that CBI would rise to the expectation of the court.
